On October 11, 2015, the Run Domestic Violence Out of Town fundraising team will run the Chicago marathon. All summer, the team has been raising funds to donate to a coalition of service organizations that help families surviving and escaping domestic violence throughout the greater Chicago area. Services include temporary shelter, housing, therapy, legal aid, job search and other necessary assistance for children and adults to establish new households free of violence. Member organizations: Arab American Family Services, Center for Advancing Domestic Peace, South Suburban Family Shelter, Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's Network, SHALVA, Connections for Abused Women and their Children, Family Rescue, Healthcare Alternative Systems, and Metropolitan Family Services. Many runners on the team are domestic violence survivors themselves, who want to give back to the communities of support who helped them when they most needed it.
